Quantum Simulations on a Quantum Computer
In 1982, Richard Feynman proposed that a quantum system would be more efficiently simulated by a computer based on the principles of quantum mechanics rather than by one based on classical mechanics [1]. Recently, it has been pointed out that it should be possible to efficiently approximate any desired Hamiltonian within the standard model of a quantum computer by a sparsely coupled array of tw...
متن کاملSimulations of Many-Body Quantum Systems by a Quantum Computer
We suggest that quantum computers can solve quantum many-body problems that are impracticable to solve on a classical computer. The classical many-body problem has been largely solved by the classical computer. For example the position of the planets in the solar system can now be predicted with an accuracy as great as the accuracy of the observations. On the other hand, quantum many-body probl...
متن کاملComputer Simulations of Quantum Chains
We report recent progress in computer simulations of quantum systems described in the path-integral formulation. For the example of the φ quantum chain we show that the accuracy of the simulation may greatly be enhanced by a combination of multigrid update techniques with a refined discretization scheme. This allows us to assess the accuracy of a variational approximation.

متن کاملTowards quantum chemistry on a quantum computer.
Exact first-principles calculations of molecular properties are currently intractable because their computational cost grows exponentially with both the number of atoms and basis set size. A solution is to move to a radically different model of computing by building a quantum computer, which is a device that uses quantum systems themselves to store and process data. Here we report the applicati...
